Rabbit Viral Haemorrahagic Disease (RVHD2)

New strain of Rabbit Viral Haemorrahagic Disease in the UK

As you may of heard in the news or by word of mouth there is a new strain of rabbit disease called RVHD2. It is becoming an increasing concern in the UK. The risk of contracting the disease seems to be higher in environments with a high volume of rabbits such as rescues or at breeders, but we are encouraging owners to have their rabbits vaccinated against this potentially fatal disease. It is recommended to keep all areas where your rabbits live clean by using a pet safe disinfectant as the disease can be transmitted via inanimate objects. For example shoes, food bowls, clothing etc. as well as biting insects.

We are able to source the vaccine against this disease and will be getting it from our wholesalers at the end of August. The cost of this vaccine is £28.80 per rabbit. Please contact the surgery and we can put you on our waiting list, we will then call you when the vaccine has arrived.

(PLEASE NOTE: YOUR RABBITS MUST BE VACCINATED AGAINST RVHD1+MYXI FOR COMPLETE COVER. THIS IS CONTAINED IN YOUR RABBITS NORMAL BOOSTER. THE RVHD1 AND RVHD2 MUST BE TWO WEEKS APART)
